  1. Check the price history

    A "was" price only matters if the item actually sold at it. Price trackers such as Keepa or camelcamelcamel show Amazon price history; for other retailers, compare against what you saw in October.

  2. Match the exact model number

    Some doorbuster electronics are special-run models with different specs. Compare model numbers, not just product names.

  3. Compare three retailers

    Many retailers price-match during the holidays. Check at least two others before you commit.

  4. Read the return window

    Holiday return windows often extend into January — but not always, and not for every category.

  5. Count the real total

    Shipping, membership fees and required add-ons can erase a discount. Compare the checkout total.

  6. Ask if you needed it on Tuesday
